Pop Up Playground

On November 17th, ACE Leadership and NMASLA  (New Mexico American Society of Landscape Architects) held the fourth annual Pop-Up Playground in New Mexico at ACE Leadership High School. A Pop-Up Playground is a one-day event during which community members come together to provide children with an opportunity for free play.

The event demonstrates that a playground is not merely a series of slides and platforms, but rather a space where community members can unite to inspire and learn from each other.

Children of all ages pitched in and constructed the playground to show what is possible in a community. The success of the event brought attention to important issues related to distribution and availability of public and recreational open space, equal access to play environments, and a community’s ability to affect positive change and improve access to these opportunities within their neighborhoods. The mission of the Pop-Up Playground movement is that “(…) children have the right to play as they please, and that a place that supports children’s play benefits everyone.”

Stay tuned for more information on the big 5th annual event coming next fall!

Sawmill Community Tree Planting

ACE staff and students participated in an October tree planting event in the Sawmill neighborhood hosted by Tree New Mexico and ABQ Neighborwoods. 50 trees were planted in the neighborhood surrounding ACE, and students and staff learned about proper planting and tree-care techniques during the process. Check out the beautiful trees around our school next time you visit!

Youth In Government

ACE Leadership High School students traveled to Santa Fe for the 2019 Youth in Government Mock Legislation in April. While at the Round House in Santa Fe, ACE students participated in mock elections and legislative sessions with approximately 200 other high schoolers from across New Mexico. Through this experience, students received a first-hand look at how their state government operates and how legislation effects their daily lives, both students and teens within the state.

Parades, Parades, Parades

During the 2018-2019 school year, ACE Leadership High School participated in four city wide parades: State Fair, Marigold, Twinkle Light, and Pride. Students and staff designed and built floats for each parade, decorating our Chato mascot around each parade theme. Make sure you catch our students reppin' ACE pride at these parades in the coming year.

Mural Painting at RAKS Building Supply

ACE students and staff collaborated with a local artist to create a new mural on the north side of the RAKS Building Supply building on 12th street across from our school. Students learned the historical significance of the railroads in the area while creating the mural of a old steam locomotive. Don't miss it when driving down 12th street on the way to ACE!
